Nvidia is about to launch a whole new range of graphics cards, with the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 at the forefront. Thanks to the new Nvidia graphic cards, we can see a considerable gain in graphics performance, and in particular making the game in 4K much more accessible.
When will the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 be released?
Presently, Nvidia has not announced an official release date for this new generation. Unsurprisingly, the pandemic has delayed the release, which should have presented its jewel during the summer. However, many leaks evoke an announcement in September 2020. Nvidia is indeed on the verge of starting large-scale production of the card. After the release of the “Founder” versions, it will take a few weeks for the first custom versions to land, which are generally much more interesting.
This release date coincides with the arrival of the new generation of consoles at the end of this year 2020. The games will be more beautiful; more graphically elaborated and will therefore require much more resources from your graphics card. The new cards from Nvidia will thus be able to obtain good performance on the most demanding new generation games.
As usual, Nvidia will release the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 first and eventually the RTX 3080 Ti.
What to expect in terms of performance?
In fact, the new Ampere architecture should allow a considerable gain in performance. On the RTX 3080, Nvidia should use a GA 102 chip. According to some leaks, the RTX 3080 should offer a performance gain of around 20% compared to the RTX 2080 Ti, which would allow it to reach close to 40% gains compared to the RTX 2080. If Nvidia follows the same trend as on previous generations, we should be entitled to an RTX 3080 Ti about 20% more efficient than a 3080, which would put the card in the lead in the ranking of the best graphics cards.
However, we can expect that this gain will be accompanied by an increase in consumption and heating. The TDP could increase dramatically, so you will need to plan for a solid cooling system if you use one of these next generation RTXs heavily.
What price for the RTX 30XX?
Over the years, we have seen a generation-to-generation price increase on Nvidia graphics cards the day they were released. For example, when it was released, the GTX 1070 cost only $ 379, compared to $ 499 for the RTX 2070. Thus, we can expect a further price increase on this generation. An introductory price of around $ 600 for the cheapest versions of the RTX 3070 seems quite possible.
The RTX 2080 cost $ 700 when it was released. We could thus see the 3080 land between $ 800 and $ 900.
