“Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War” will be the next installment in the august saga. If Activision has formalized this new title, no gameplay image has been revealed. The official presentation will indeed take place in a week.
After months of rumors, it is now confirmed. The next Call of Duty will be called Black Ops Cold War. This part came to light in a video that sets the context for the game, but no gameplay footage was shown. The official presentation is indeed scheduled for August 26, next Wednesday.
The presentation video shows us archival footage punctuated by an interview with Yuri Bezmenov, a former KGB agent who deserted to the West in 1970. The latter claims that the most sensitive spheres of the US military are infiltrated by a Soviet agent, codenamed Perseus.
This story is a legend of the Cold War, with Perseus never having been identified. Some even doubt its existence. However, it is of course this historical fact that Treyarch will rely on to build his plot.
Back to the cold war
This is not the first time that the Cold War will be addressed in a Call of Duty. Black Ops first title, released in 2010, was already taking place in the 1960s. As a reminder, it was at the beginning of this decade that the tensions between the United States and the USSR were the strongest, with a peak in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During this event, World War III was on the verge of breaking out.
We will certainly have to wait until the end of the year to play Black Ops Cold War, the usual Call of Duty release date. The fate of Warzone, the ultra popular battle royale of the franchise, also remains to be known. Free-to-play, which has distanced itself from Modern Warfare, could still be the backbone of the series.
