Galaxy Z Fold 2: a flexible screen protected by Corning Gorilla Victus

Although the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is official, Samsung has not released all the details of its spec sheet. While waiting for the full presentation scheduled for September 1, a leak reveals one of these details: the flexible display would be covered with the same protective glass as that of the Galaxy Note 20, namely Corning’s Gorilla Victus.

Samsung organized on August 5 one of its Unpacked conferences, bi-annual meetings where the Korean firm presents its new high-end phones. The previous one was dedicated to the Galaxy S20 range. This was the opportunity to discover many products, such as the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy Watch 3, Galaxy Tab S7 and S7 + and Galaxy Buds Live. At this event, Samsung also began lifting the veil on the Galaxy Z Fold 2. And full details will be revealed on September 1.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is Samsung’s third foldable smartphone, after the Fold and the Z Flip. When it went official on August 5, Samsung did not release all the details about this phone, but claimed to have taken into account all the comments of consumers about the Galaxy Fold to improve the design and strength. The hinge in particular now incorporates an automatic dust evacuation system that constantly threatens the main screen.

The same glass as the Galaxy Note 20

Today, new leak on Galaxy Z Fold 2 enhancements was released. It concerns precisely the flexible screen and it is unveiled by SamMobile. According to the latter, Samsung has chosen to protect the flexible screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 with Corning’s Gorilla Victus glass. It is a mineral glass that the manufacturer presented at the beginning of August and that Samsung is already using for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

The presence of the Gorilla Victus would explain why Samsung claims that the Z Fold 2’s display is more robust than that of its predecessor. Recall that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra emerges from certain drop tests with honors when some competitors cannot say the same under the same conditions. According to the Indian media outlet, Samsung also chose Gorilla Victus to protect the exterior of the Z Fold 2, including the secondary screen. Remember that the screens of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 measure 7.6 inches and 6.2 inches respectively.
